PORT WENTWORTH, GA — Thursday, February 28, 2019 — Bright and early on Saturday, April 17, Port Wentworth will kick off its annual Stand Up for America Day observance with the 12th annual Savannah River Spring Classic Fishing Tournament. Anglers launch from the Houlihan Boat Landing in Port Wentworth at 5:30 a.m. – an excellent beginning to an event-packed day.

Fishing begins at 6 a.m., with weigh-in scheduled from 3-4 p.m. Anglers compete to win prizes, including the guaranteed first place prize of $2,000. Registration is now open at https://www.savannahriverspringclassic.com/, and the fee is $150 per two-man team. The Captain’s Dinner will be held Friday, April 26. All anglers must be present. This year, the tournament raises funds for the Military Order of the Purple Heart Association, Chatham County auxiliary.

Port Wentworth's annual Stand up for America Day is celebrated every year on the last Saturday in April to honor America's service men and women, past and present. Here’s the full schedule of events:

-7:30 a.m.: Pancake Breakfast sponsored by Port Wentworth Alliance Church

-9:15 a.m.: Judging of Parade Participants Begins

Immediately following the parade, head over to the main event stage and festival grounds for a street rally that includes the Color Guard, National Anthem, invocation and speeches by the mayor and city council members. For the rest of the day, there will be live entertainment, vendor booths, Island Paradise Balloon Art, a game truck, free kids' rides, a Harley Davidson simulator, Razzle Dazzle characters, Wildlife Wonders, Minute-To-Win-It Games, street dancers, a DJ, raffles, a great firework display at 9 p.m., and more! This year's entertainment acts include Bought By Blood, a Christian Gospel band, and City Heat.

“Stand Up for America Day is an incredible event for our city,” said Trisha Growe, Chamber of Commerce President and CEO. “We love to come out and honor our heroes. Enjoying the parade, fishing tournament and fun family activities is the perfect way to celebrate our community and its heritage. Good luck to the fishers and parade contestants!”
